Margaret,

Your message implies that PBS, in 1985, ran a story which mentioned Reagan, 
Taliban and Reagan using the phrase freedom fighters. That's not the case. I 
was surprised to read this, and went to see the story. It is a 1985 
discussion between Dusko Doder, Jim Lehrer and Brzezinski, and on the side, 
they have provided additional links to more recent coverage on Taliban. 
PBS's first stories on Taliban are from 1996. Search functions are useful, 
and Google is indeed among the best, but even Google can't unearth such a 
quote -- very likely because Taliban's existence became widely known only in 
mid-1990s, by which time, as I said in an earlier note, Reagan was part of 
history.
