The explanation of what's wrong with HTML is on the page whose link I 
provided. Once again, it's

Postings on this list are often 75% in HTML--code that is ugly, and 
unreadable. It's hard to find the plain English scattered about 
thinly in digests clogged with HTML if you get the list in digest 
format, as many of us do. It also wastes computer and network space 
and time.
