Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 09:12 EDT From: Sangeeta_RAY-AT-umail.umd.edu (sr42) Subject: abusive mails Dear all: I am all for free speech and so let "eldora" (is that an alias--does this person have a name --if so I may have missed it) write whatever he/she pleases. however, those of you (including me) who find it distasteful and basically not even an argument--its just a string of abuse--could merely ignore it, can't we? By now when you see a posting from 'eldora" you could just choose to zap it. what is even worse is when someone responds to the post and includes "eldora's" post in their reply--why circulate what you think is abusive and full of mostly gendered, sexual epithets. How does that help? isn't this exactly what someone who writes hate mail wants--a circulation. So, i for one, choose not to read the posts but then am forced to when its included in a reply. Why provide fodder for someone who clearly is using this forum to rile people--unless of course you (those who engage this 'eldora") choose to be riled. I am not saying turn the other cheek but at times exercising one's choice to ignore someone who clearly is using speech as a way to release some deep pent up "something" about who knows what may help. Of course those who like to be called cunt and find it fascinating and amusing should of course continue to engage with "eldora"--that too is a question of choice. Of course "eldora" will reply to this and I will tell "eldora" now that I ofcourse will not read the mail or respond to his posting about this.
