ps: i think it smething fairly provocative at the time like:"the white negro
norman mailor of all people, in the 50's or late 40's wrote a short
provocative essay on race which if my memory is correct dealt with  this
subject, the name of the essay is on the tip of my tongue, the essay was
very popular in left academic circles in the 50's. if i remember i'll email
yu  bob brown


PS: it was something fairly provocative at the time like:"the  white negro"
