Subject: appeal

Dear friends,

This weekend triple j goes all out to help young refugees in Australia.

The Real Appeal is our bi yearly radio event, raising money for young
people in
need. This year, we've been moved by the many stories of refugees coming to
Australia, fleeing hardship, persecution and even death.

45% of Australia's refugees are under 25. So triple j has decided to give
them
a hand. Money raised on the weekend will go to the National Forum for the
Survivors of Torture and Trauma, a collection of agencies around the
country who
provide support to refugees. These services include counselling, group
activities like camps for young refugees, and even natural therapies, which
can
provide a simple start to the healing process.

These services are incredibly needed. The trauma of fleeing your home and
losing friends and family members, let alone being abused or tortured,
continues
to live on for refugees. If services are provided, the recovery rate is
good.
But for those who don't get help, including those who've spent time in
detention
in Australia, the trauma can live on for years.

So please, support the Real Appeal for Young Refugees this weekend. It's
your
chance to make a difference to young lives, and to show the world that
Australia
is a caring country, which welcomes those who really need our help.
