<html><div style='background-color:'><DIV><BR>Northern Michigan U is doing a seminar called "Perspectives on Evil" and I have been asked to present.  I want to look at representation of evil in postcolonial literature and I want to tie it in with gender.  However, I am afraid to tackel this issue at this time without adding to the misundersting and confusion of the almost all white students at this campus. Yet as a postcolonial feminist, I want to bring this issue up and teach, which is what I do.  I want to look at the "pure" and "impure" regarding gender represenation and construction without adding to the stereotypes.  What a daunting tast it seems nowadays!  You might wonder where I am headed with this.  Well, could you please nudge me toward a good essay or book that looks at gender oppression and the construction of women as evil in Indian literature and culture (movies, etc.) that I can present to the upper div English class here.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  How do you think a movie like FIRE do for a start?  Also I want to do a comparative with some western text that looks at such construction too to give it some balance.</DIV>
