Hallo.

Next week I'm going to see an Australian production of "The Road to Mecca"
by Athol Fugard.
I've been told that the road is a popular image in African literature and
has quite a different meaning to that of Western/US representations (road as
freedom, outlaw escape etc.)

I plan to write a review of the play for M/C Reviews
(http://www.media-culture.org.au/) but would really appreciate some insight
into this aspect of African literature and perhaps Athol Fugard's work.
Have you any ideas or recommendations of texts, articles or websites to
guide me?

Thanks in advance, Emma
