Subject: Discrimination in the Cultural Institutions of Quebec
Date: Sun, 31 Mar 2002 09:09:00 -0500

Dear list members
We are currently fighting to get more representation for visible minorities
in the cultural institutions of Quebec. The following is the first passage
of a petition we have put up:

“Montreal is a multilingual and multiracial society yet members of visible
minorities and Natives are excluded from the artistic life of this city.
Publicly funded cultural institutions are the fundamental culprits in this
exclusion. This is reflected both in their staffing practices and in the
exclusion of visible minorities from programming, grants and acquisitions.
These institutions hide behind pseudo-universality and supposed aesthetic
judgements in justifying their choices of artists and staff. However, it is
surprising that these same universal and aesthetic values result in an
almost complete exclusion of visible minorities.”

If you agree with our fight, go to the web petition below and sign it.
