But when I see a tradtition of banning non-believers from >certain cities evolve into very visible and vocal calls for all >non-believers or westerners to leave Saudi Arabia, it does not seem like >such a stretch >to believe there are many in the region who want all non-believers out of >the Middle East, or at least want a region which is Judenrein. Right wing >militias are present in the US, but have >no influence on US policy. The number of people in the militias seems to >have dropped off significantly in the last 10 years. you can compare the ban of "non-believers" to all sorts of elections all over the world (to the fact that you have to be a citizen i.e. belong to a certain group) why don't you have problems with that? so, the banning of the sites to non-moslems is aimed to be a defense against not really non-believers per se , but rather COLONIALIST POWERS (which can be of different religions, etc. let's not forget that throught history Mecca and Medina had been a target of attack). That sheltered Saudi Arabia from being ever colonised. Never, ever in this list was this idea discussed (that Saudi Arabia was never colonised). >To Omar Guessous' statement that it is a "rare" >sentiment that non-Muslims not be allowed in the entire Middle East, I hope >this is true. Being a scholar who knows the Middle east and Arabic very well you should have an idea about Middle eastern religions and ethnic groups. if not, take a trip to the middle-east. _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --- from list postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
