dear list memebers,

http://www.haaretz.co.il/hasite/pages/ShArtPE.jhtml?itemNo=152468+++

Unfortunately, this article is in Hebrew, which is probably not very accessable language to most list memebers, but it is relating to the amount, history and context of Hebrew words transplanted into the Arabic (Palestinian) language.

I dedicate this article for all of you who see the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in terms of binary oppositions, and would like to remind you that there is a strong Post-Zionist movement among intelectual Jewish and Arab Israelis (Prof. Ilan Pape, Prof. Hanan Hever, Dr. Azmi Bishara etc. - if to mention few of the leading names) deeply influenced by Post-Colonial thought.
The article was written by Israeli-Arab Nazar Hassan , concerning the diffusion of hebrew words into the Arabic language, not to mention the emmense amount of Arabic words being used in the Israeli-Hebrew language (quite different from the Hebrew of the Bible, or hebrew being used by non-Zionit Jews, of Europe and America for example). Infact, the most popular farewell saying in contemporary young Hebrew is "Yallah, Bye".....(a combnination of Arabic and English used by Hebrew speakers).

Sincerely,

Ayelet Zohar
Tel Aviv
