I the wake of my furor I sent a pretty desperate message. So, I don't
expect the all the responses to be seething with profundity. Saeed please
explain a bit more in detail how "we" - those who are against fascism and
hatred - are overly concerned with our own embourgoisement. What exactly is
a good measurement (or indicator) of embourgoisement. How do "we" go about
this?  Is this statistically proven?  If so, how did we get this way;
assuming we weren't always this way?

Even my husband throws this word around as if it meant something. When
appealing to those on this list - "educators, scholars, intellectuals and
*poets*" - I was hoping more or less to include everyone who participates
and lurks - at least in the *role* they play by being interested in poco
studies. Perhaps I should have included activists, humanitarian workers and
others too (I apologize) but I assumed y'all would get the point. I also
supposed that most of us here are interested in injustice and the
(im)balance of power in the world. Maybe I was wrong.

Dear Salwa, I appreciate your interpretation of the vote. But I don't find
it anymore reassuring to know that supposedly sentient humans voted for Le
Pen as a protest vote. I should have perhaps voted for Pat Buchanan in that
case? Those who voted for Le Pen as a "protest" vote know good and well
what he represents and their act is as irreprehensible as those who
knowingly voted for Bush, Sharon, & even Hitler (let us not forget that
Hitler was also legally elected to office!) The only message those protest
votes send (assuming we can seperate them from the real votes) is to be
very, very afraid.

Jaclyn
