How about Achebe's _Anthills of the Savannah_ and Farah's _Secrets_ and 
_Gifts_? -- Also Farah's _From a Crooked Rib_ -- these aren't about cities 
but they're set in cities and play with contrasts between urban areas and 
beteen city/country.
