Soumya,

As a former member of the Hindu Student Council at the University of Texas 
at Austin, I can assure you that the main activities of these groups, at 
least with this particular chapter, were not Muslim bashing.  In fact, all 
of the pundits/scholars/gurus that would speak to our group would emphasize 
the need for tolerance of ALL religious groups, whether they are tolerant of 
us or not.

Occasionally, there would be structured readings of the Vedas and Upanishads 
with pujas at the end of some meetings... but, in all honesty, the meetings 
were a social gathering where "Hindu Indians" could find out where the next 
house party was and who the new hot freshmans were.

So, in my opinion, there's nothing scary about that.  It's like your average 
fraternity meeting w/ a few om shanti's thrown in there somewhere... just to 
give it legitimacy.
