Subject: Novels for a course on the 'non-west'? From: Vanessa F Hudson <vfhuds2-AT-uky.edu> Date: Tue, 06 Aug 2002 14:01:45 -0400 Listserve members, I'm writing to ask for literary suggestions for a course I'm teaching this fall. The course title is "Lands and Peoples of the 'Non-Western World'", and I will cover the following concepts (for example): colonialism, development, neocolonialism, nationalism, gender issues, etc. I would like to have the students read novels that demonstrate the personal, human side of some of the issues we discuss in class, and as a way to introduce different perspectives from various regions we are discussing. I hope to compile a list of at least 25 books from around the world that touch on issues related to the course, which are accessible to a lower-division undergraduate class. Can anyone offer suggestions? I'd be happy to send out a compilation of suggestions to the list. Thanks, Vanessa Hudson ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vanessa hudson, phd student department of geography university of kentucky 1457 patterson office tower lexington ky 40506-0027 phone: 859.257.6992 fax:859.323.1969 vfhuds2-AT-uky.edu --- from list postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
