The US uses Israel as a conveniently-located satellite in the MidEast --Agreed! 

I recently watched a program of the "John Hagee" ministries on television: Benjamin Netanyahu was the guest speaker, and he spewed hate-filled words and blatant lies about ARabs to a crowd of wide-eyed, admiring American evangelical Christians. As a Palestinian-Christian (and as a human being!), I was appalled, but had to remember that Israel's government does play up to this segment of the population who believes that the creation of ISrael is the fulfillment of prophecy and that the Arabs are still the desert savages they have grown used to seeing in old James Bond movies.

However, it is also interesting to note that the US population is still anti-Semitic: Hatred for Jews is sadly still alive in this country, despite the government's financial and political support for Israel (the US refused to allow Jews fleeing the Holocaust to emigrate!). No matter what strides have been made in this area, anti-Semitism, like racism, is still there; there is still little "real" understanding among non-Jewish Americans about Jewish history and culture. So, in many ways, this Israeli-American alliance is a love-hate relationship. 

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think that dollars hold greater weight than the hegemony that America 
has spent so much time creating, developing, and maintaining.  Sure, they are 
aware that Israeli dollars and other monies may be withdrawn if they do not 
continue to comply with the Israeli/Jewish lobby in the States.  However, the 
U.S. has been consistent in maintaining an overwhelming presence across the 
globe, often imposing its will by force, other times through quid pro quo.  
The point here is that America has used Israel as its satellite, maintaining 
a sphere of influence in the region through the state of Israel.  The fact 
that Israel's weapons come from America and the bulk of their strength comes 
from the American dollar (billions of it) coupled with scenes of warefare, 
where Israel confers with the US before acting militarily (the Gulf War, 
recent battles where Sharon would wait for Bush to respond before attacking 
Palestinian gunmen).  America has gone to great lengths to ensure that its 
vision of the world becomes reality and it places much value on that process.
