Check out Timothy Brennan's work -- _Salman
Rushdie and the Third World_.  He also has an
older article, "the Cosmopolitan Third-World
Intellectual" or something like that...I think
it's from the late 80s or early 90s...I can find
the exact citation for you, if you want. Just let
