Just as an aside, the area of Durban where M.K. Gandhi built his Phoenix settlement is now an informal settlement known as Bambayi, being the isiZulu rendering of the name, adopted because many of the residents came from Bombay as a port of departure.

I do not know if the market gardeners that first settled there were predominantly Hindi or Gujarati; I assume Hindi because the North Indians tended to be in an area for a while before building a temple and I don't know of any temples in the area.
