Rastegar" <kdr7-AT-columbia.edu> Subject: Re: Question re. locals writing about travelers For accounts of foreign travelers/exiles in Europe... a couple of suggestions: Wilfred Scawen Blunt - My diaries, being a personal narrative of events, 1888-1914 and Wilfred Scawen Blunt - Secret history of the English occupation of Egypt; being a personal narrative of events. Both of these contain discussions about certain exiled/travelling Arab and Iranian intellectuals in Great Britain, among many other issues. I can't recall which it is, but one has a lengthy discussion of the travels of Jamal al-Din Afghani (aka Asad-Abadi) in England, as Blunt's guest. Blunt was an eccentric anti-imperialist aristocrat who made common cause with many of the Middle East's anti-colonial intellectuals of his day. -KR On Fri, 20 Dec 2002 suhak-AT-canada.com wrote: > Hello to all, > > I would like know if there is any > literature/accounts/writings by local people in the > West (Europe/North America) about non-Western visitors > who either studied, were exiled to Western cities, or, > for some reason, happened to visit for a long time > during the 18-19th century, or earlier. > > Also, if you can suggest material related to writings > about non-Westerners visiting other non-Western > countries (or vise versa: writings about Westerners > visiting non-Western places), that would be great too. > > I can easily find material about travel writings (i.e. > people who wrote about their travels), but I am having > difficulty locating any writings of people who > met/encountered visitors/tourists/students passing by > their cities?
