Rushdie does not belong to muslim community and he is proud of being an 
atheist. rushdie is more british than indian, more western than "eastern". 
unfortunately , Rushdie is not an authority on the religion like many think 
he is. his reading of it is echoes the Orientalists of the 18th and 19th 
century in his Satanic v.
His "what kind of Idea Are you?", all his readings of  old religions (Hindu 
and  pre-Jahili ones) by regarding them as better than others though knowing 
that they are "ideas " too. yet, the 3 religions  are not as ,maybe, 
"exotic' for him reflect an english mind and not even a hybrid like he 
claims.   he is a reactionary when it comes to religions and scared and 
apologetic when he is afraid (check Imaginary Homelands).
what kind of idea is Rushdie?
