You may want to look at works by Gretel Ehrlich. Her book The Solace of Open
Spaces, particularly. She works in the idea of the "other" and gives agency
to the land through her portrayal of it and by her incorporation of the land
into herself. The book is a really wonderful with the use of metaphors.
Ehrlich is rather adept at defamiliarization. The book is slim, but full of
imagery. There are a few essays on the book that might also help. Hope this
helps.

Hi Everybody:

I am trying to put together a course on representations of the environment
titled "Narratives, Ecology, Agency." Through the study of representations
of environment in various media, it will attempt to understand: the central
role human perceptions have played and continue to play in the creation of
both sustainable and unsustainable relations with nature.

What I need is some specific help in finding literary works of short length
-- poems, short stories, short plays -- to place with the theoretical essays
listed under the topics below.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
