Subject: Re: Sto P MaKIng Sense and Stop Wasting Time Date: Mon, 9 Dec 2002 16:40:46 -0000 This is really unpardonably anti-intellectual. What do you mean by controlled? If Bush controls the media why is he convinced that it is a liberal conspiracy against him? There is plenty of (now quite old) theory on how the media responds to powerful elite groups in society, I recommend you read some of this. As for protest against the war I think that you are being unnecessarily defeatist. I think there is evidence that the widespread protest from many quarters, including those who Bush would traditionally list among his allies, has for the moment prevented unilateral US military action. While I think question remain about the legitimacy of the weapons inspections, protest maintains pressure on the US administration to allow this process to take place and to take precedence to unmonitored military attacks. It may ultimately prevent any outright attack from taking place. This isn't a victory if victory is only measured as the overthrow of the Bush government - or any capitalist government in the US. But is that seriously the battleground at the moment? Resistance is often piecemeal that doesn't make it wrong or irrelevant. ----- Original Message ----- From: Maldoror <insektus-AT-yahoo.com> To: <postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu> Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 2:30 PM Subject: Re: Sto P MaKIng Sense and Stop Wasting Time > start voicing dissent in > > the popular > > media at the glaring non-sequiturs in the case > > that's being made for > > war at present, > > the media is controlled by those in power (ie bush). > why do you think dissent is always relegated to > academic journals and dissident mags found in > underground bookstores. > > gr3g > > ====> > 'every government is a dictatorship. every leader, a tyrant.' -anonymous > > > __________________________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
