Subject: Re: Sto P MaKIng Sense and Stop Wasting Time Date: Mon, 9 Dec 2002 19:29:05 -0000 Said and Chomsky are always in the mainstream media! At least they are in the UK. And last time I looked Said's major works were published by major capitalist publishing houses and sold in major capitalist bookstores. Similarly the British media runs quite a few pro-Palestinian anti-Israeli-state articles. Granted they also run quite a few pro-Israeli-state anti-Palestinian stories as well but it is very rare in the UK to have a story on Palestine which doesn't include at least one voice from the Palestinian side of the conflict. Now I accept that the US media is different but it serves no ones purpose to exaggerate these differences in such untheorised and totalising way. As for Iraq, why exactly do you think that US forces haven't invaded yet? What was all that negotiating in the UN all about if Bush is in a position to simply invade anyway? Again, no one is served by exaggerating the extent of US hegemony. ----- Original Message ----- From: Maldoror <insektus-AT-yahoo.com> To: <postcolonial-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu> Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 6:47 PM Subject: Re: Sto P MaKIng Sense and Stop Wasting Time > so why are people like chomsky, said, parenti, etc. > rarely if ever seen in the mainstream media yet they > are constantly attacking the US regimes. why is there > nearly zero attacks made against israel in the media > concerning it's annihilation in palestine yet everyday > no matter how small the event, palestinians are are > indicted? > > to think the powers that be are not in bed with those > who produce the media is in my mind being rather > naive. > > > It may > > ultimately prevent any outright attack from taking > > place. > > as far as protesting goes there was the not in our > name protest held nationwide to protest the coming > bush war on iraq. has it done any good? no. bush and > his cronnies are still laying out plans to invade > iraq, with or without UN approval, iwth or without > other nations support. > > i enjoy a good protest as much as the next person but > i have to ask myself if it's going to do any good when > progress toward war continues as though the protests > never happened. > > plus you have to aks yourself if the people had info > from the likes of chomsky, et al, would they still be > as supportive of the war effort. you cannot deny the > misinformation presented daily in the news. war sells > newspapers. how many bought newspapers on 911 and the > days after vs now? > > gr3g > > ====> > 'every government is a dictatorship. every leader, a tyrant.' -anonymous > > > __________________________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
