Subject: pronunciation of Amitav Ghosh

A quick and easy (I expect) question and answer. I'm teaching at a
small college and would like to have confirmation on the pronunciation
of an author's name: Amitav Ghosh. I've heard it pronounced thus:
A-mee-tav Gosh. That is, a long "e" sound for the "i" and short "a"
sound for the "a" in the first name and a long "o" sound in the last
name, as in "go" and not a short "o" sound like in "Gosh, it is really
cold today." Could someone with more experience confirm? You can reach
me off-list: lcaton-AT-wisdom.wsc.ma.edu. Many Thanks!

Lou
