Shattuck" <shattuck-AT-aamu.edu> Subject: community/reviewing posts/deleting Folks who subscribe to email lists know how to delete unwanted messages. I don't think that's the concern here. When I joined this list, I was fairly certain I'd have access to information related to my interests in postcolonial literatures and I thought I'd read and maybe participate in some fine exchanges. However, when I signed on, almost all the list traffic consisted of the off-topic rants/raves of about two people. I thought perhaps it was all a joke but still didn't know why such messages were on the postcolonial list. I didn't unsubscribe because I kept hoping for some information -- on other lists, I'd seen forwards from the postcolonial list; I thought surely some information must occasionally appear. I told other colleagues and friends not to subscribe to the postcolonial list not only because there was so little information that I could easily forward anything worth reading, but also because the discussion was usually off-topic, offputting, and offensive. As the rants/raves continued, I decided the list wasn't worth it and was about to unsubscribe when Radhika intervened. The ensuing CFP's, queries for information, and other discussions have assured me that not only is this a worthwile list, but that the absence of discussion and the lack of information I first experienced had a clear cause. >^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^< Sandra D.
