The first-- "Saints and Pilgrimage around the Atlantic"-- takes place from Friday, February 20th to Sunday February 22nd at the College of Charleston, and covers issues of religious syncretism, cultural migration, and the role of religion in identity formation from North Africa to the British Isles, North America, the Caribbean, and Brazil. The keynote speaker is Professor John Corrigan, Edwin Scott Gaustad Professor of religion and Professor of History at Florida State University. The second--the annual meeting of the Southern Intellectual History Circle--will take place from Thursday, February 26th to Saturday, February 28th and will discuss the American South through postcolonial lenses by bringing historians together with literary scholars. The keynote speaker is Professor John Matthews of Boston University, whose lecture is entitled "The U.S. South, Modern American empire, and Post-Colonial Studies."
