It surely wasn't for me, a Angusson-AT-aol.com> member of the audience. One thing that kills a performance is unimaginative writing. The worst puppet shows are the "message" shows that preach and talk down to their audience. If you want to get a point across, that's wonderful, just don't bore your audience to tears doing it. Another problem I see in a lot of shows aimed at kids is the awful characterization. Characters are the key to your show. So many either sound like they've waltzed out of a 1950's primary reader or they're clones of what you see on Sesame Street. I was treated to John Pattison's "The Not The Mr. Dressup Show" (if you're not familiar with Canadian TV you won't get the title) show at the recent Ontario Puppetry Arts festival and one thing that just made the show was the hilarious puppets. THAT's what it's about. After all, if the audience can't connect/identify with your characters, why will they care about your show? -- Via DLG Pro v1.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew Young Creative Director/Producer - Omle Media Centennial College RTV Broadcasting Program e-mail: andrew_young-AT-kiwi.com --- Personal replies to: Andrew_Young-AT-kiwi.com (Andrew Young) --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu
