Yesterday, when my brother-in-law had the TV on and was sort of flipping through the channels, a kids news show came on. The topic was puppets. It was absolutely wonderful! They had a ventriloquist named Larry who was using an Axtell bird and then he had a figure that I would guess was a Lovik figure.....not too sure, through. Then they showed some Japanese shadow puppetry with Shoji screens and hands. Cheryl Henson demonstrated some puppets that had been made from objects around the house such as a meatballer and boxes. She said that the first Kermit had been made with ping pong ball eyes and cloth from a bathrobe--if I remember right. I found the show fascinating. The two kids who MC'd it asked lots of questions of each of the demonstrators. They also showed an opera with puppets that had puppets who were operated by opera singers. For awhile the puppets would perform behind the puppet stage then appear to walk off the stage and the puppeteers would then perform as people in the same costumes as the puppets. It was "Little Red Riding Hood." From what they showed, it was clever and hilarious. The audience was enjoying it immensely! I didn't get who was staging this production. Has anyone seen this done? If so, where?
