Hi, Nancy--
I am in the process of working on a donkey puppet to be operated from
underneath, which is quite different from a marionette. It is partly modeled
on the operation of a flying sphinx puppet from Indonesia that I found. It is
for use in a nativity play to carry Mary, and so it has to be able to carry a
rider who can be separated from it later. I wish you luck with your horse.
You're lucky to have a father who will do the roughcut for you. What wood do
you use, and do you carve it? If you carve it, do you use power or hand
tools?
