I use rock maple because it is tough as iron and our puppets get lots of abuse. It takes power tools to carve it, though.You can get a carver's magazine and access the resources in the back among the classifieds and ads.One place to acquire it: Woodcraft 210 Wood County Industrial Park P.O. They also sell the best woodcarving tools. But normal hardware or lumber establishments will not carry it; it is a specialty wood.
