From: markl-AT-levenson.com Date: Mon, 19 Aug 1996 11:05:10 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: workshop for children somewhat older than this, i've done workshops focusing on creating and performing a brief puppet play (5-10 minutes per student or student group), rather than making puppets. the puppets were newspaper/rehearsal type table-top puppets. the workshop started with video clips of different types of puppet plays, discussion of what makes up the content or subject of plays, what interests the students, and how they can turn those interests into playlets. then we quickly (relatively) demonstrated the use and construction of the newspaper puppets, and let them go at it. i would think the same approach could work for this age group. the whole thing, including performances by the kids, can run to three or four sessions of 90 minutes each.
