We use recorded music and sfx with live voices for our shows, with 3
seconds between cues. This usually gave us enough time to get to the
foot pedal to stop the cue before the next cue came up. It was very
difficult when the music faded down to tell when the cue was over, and
lead to some embarrassing mishaps. We now have a Tascam 133 3-track
cassette recorder that not only controls the slide projectors for our
rear-projected scenery, but has a stop pulse that stops the tape in
exactly the same places every time. You have no idea how much easier
this makes our job, not to mention the improvement in show quality due
to the absence of miscues.

Not much help to your question, but I saw the opportunity to mention
this, and I took it. :)
