Listed as president is Marlyin O'conner Miller (810)642-8919. She should be able to refer you to other puppeteers nearer to you. I see a few names listed in the PofA directory for Kalamazoo. Another resource I didn't mention is colleges that have puppetry as part of their curriculum. You might consider a semester at another college just for puppetry if you are very serious about it. The Puppetry Home page lists several colleges that do some.
