My name is Jennifer and I am interested in puppetry. I would like to learn
about the construction and the puppeteering itself but I am not sure where
 to start. Any suggestions?

You have had some excellent advice, but I would like to add my two cents.
For newcomers to puppetry I always suggest joining Puppeteers of America and
your local Puppetry Guild. You can meet Puppeteers and receive some
excellent Puppetry publications. See the Puppetry Home Page:
 http://www-leland.stanford.edu/%7Erosesage/puppetry/puppetry.html
for information regarding these organizations and a whole lot more. Take a
trip to your local library and familiarize yourself with all the books
available on Puppetry. See as many different shows as you can, and try to
talk to the performers that interest you. Don't hesitate to get started or
try something different. The individuality of Puppetry styles is part of the
attraction. Good luck!
