Subject: Re: Eye Making Techniques

I have not done it myself, but a friend of mine has and his turned out very
well. They were not especially heavy even though they were solid. He used
Clear cast I believe. I bought some resin but have not been able to locate
any of the tint for it to do the whites of the eyes.

He placed some clear resin (with a few drops of the activator) in a I TBSP
measurer that was the appropriate circular shape for an eyeball. Then he
layed down an "iris" (he has some different ways of creating those ranging
>from colored mylar to a computer generated one) which already had a black
segin pupil on it. After that set, he mixed the white tint with the resin
and activator, poured that in on top and let that all set up.

Be careful. This is pretty noxious stuff and needs proper ventilation. The
effect, however, is worth the trouble. The eyes actually come out looking
quite comparable to some very pricey doll eyes. I am planning on playing
around with this myself after the holidays. I was going to use some round
ice cube trays and do a whole bunch at a time. If you have your "mold" for
the eye set at an angle the wite of the eye ends up being more appropriately
balanced for puppet creation.

Good Luck and let me know how things go. If you have any further questions,
I can probably reference my friend to you, but I should probably check with
him first....
