There is another material you might want to play with. It is called
Elasticlay. Produced by the makers of Sculpey. 
After forming the mold, (it will hold its shape) you cook it in the oven
for 20-30 minutes. It sets flexible.
I have been using it for rod puppet hands lately...
Interesting stuff.
Available in art stores either as a stock item, or special purchase.
