We agree with David on this. There is a line between sharing information
and advertising. One of the longstanding rules of basic netiquette is no
unsolicited advertising. I don't have a problem with this particular offer
of cheap cassettes, although I know that other lists would require Steve to
post something like "I have a bunch of ten minute cassettes that I can't
use and would like to give away - contact me for details."

Steve, many of your posts do include enough information to balance the
self-promotion, and some self-promotion is natural on the list. However,
some of your posts are purely advertising, and I don't like receiving
unsolicited e-mail advertising. That, as David said, is not the purpose of
this list. Your signature clearly lets me know where I can find your web
page if I'm interested in your products. I could throw away all your posts
unopened, but then I would miss your ideas and information.

Since a lot of people are interested in receiving your advertising, why not
keep your own advertising list? People interested can email you (directly
to <steve-AT-axtell.com> - NOT to the PUPTCRIT list). That way, the people who
are interested in your products can receive your advertising and proper
"netiquette" is maintained.
