Subject: Lighting

While walking through the mall one day I noticed the variety of retail
display lighting in the windows. Some of the instruments are neat little
miniatures of stage lighting. Has anyone explored such retail display
lighting for use with puppet stages? Can anyone suggest where I should look
for catalogs of this type of lighting?

Also, because I encourage younger children to be involved in puppet
production, I would like to be able to use child-safe 12 volt dc current for
stage lighting which could be supplied selectively either from transformed
110 v. or from batteries (in locations where 110v is not available - as in
certain outdoor locations) I realize that DC introduces an entirely different
set of requirements for lighting instruments and controls.

What experience have others had in this area?
