Subject: Re: swazzles and Renaissance puppetry

Hi everyone,

I hear of people coming on to this list from time to time and exposing
themselves as 'coming along for the ride'. Well, it's time for me to bite
the bullet and add my two cents' worth as well.

I am a member of a re-enactment group in Sydney called the Breughel players.
Our thing is to dress in Renaissance period costume and recreate the way
that peasants lived(especially the way they entertained themselves) in that era.

Part of our programme involves puppetry, and while no-one in our group is an
expert in the field it certainly fired my imagination enough to do some
research. When the subject of swazzles was mentioned recently it got me to
thinking: were swazzles used in the Renaissance, or was it a later addition
to the Punch phenomenon?

I too would like to perform Faust with puppets, so I will eagerly await the
replies to that particular post as well. Does anyone know of a good
publication which deals with Renaissance period puppet drama?
