Subject: Painting Latex heads

Hi everyone-

I have made latex puppets for an ongoing exhibit at the Art Institute of
Chicago. The puppets as you can imagine get alot of use. The problem I have
is the paint has either peeled or rubbed off the heads.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have used dry pigment mixed with rubber cement and thinner this wears off
as do dyes.
Acrylics eventually peel even when mixed with liquid latex.
Is there a flexible transparent substance that can protect the paint?
Maybe the way I am putting it on might be the issue.
Any suggestions or experience as soon as possible (I have a deadline) would
be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks!
Doug O'Connell
