Here's a rule of thumb...........large puppets such as
vent figures and say 36" marionettes........I would
use basswood.   Anything smaller which is most
puppets.........use poplar or others.  Bass is not
good on small hands and limbs.  It is good on chests
and butts for weight purposes in marionettes or rod.
I operate a 36" puppet puppeteer with two old Hazel
clowns at the bottom.  Even though bass.....it takes
a moose to hold this bad boy up.
