I agree with Stephen one hundred per cent.  A recent Laurel and Hardy script 
I read (obviosly they were not puppeteers, but puppeteers could learn a lot 
by watching L & H movies) was only 5 pages - there was a lot of blank space, 
which allowed for bits of "business" and ad libbing.
    Several of the last few so-called "artsy-fartsy puppet shows that I saw 
had what I believe to be serious flaws.  One is that they were too damned 
seious.  To make points about dark, serious subjects, it is a good idea to 
lighten up a moment or two earlier.  The point would be made with much more 
impact. I don't mean with a pie in the face, but rather in the spirit of the 
play.  
   Another flaw is in the pacing.  Certain productions could be set with a 
metronome.  It is difficult to pay attention when a serious production drones 
on with the same pace throughout.                 Bob N
