Subject: PUPT: Overt table top bunraku style

I would greatly appreciate some guideance.

I want to build what I believe is referred to as an "overt table-top bunraku"
puppet to be operated by a single puppeteer. I want the puppet to be about
two feet tall.
I've seen puppets of this kind used by Handspring Puppet Co. but have not
been able to find much info on their construction. Any ideas about where to
look for information.

On average, what are the basic proportions I should follow (i.e. what should
the height of the legs, torso, neck head be, as well as length of arms ) The
puppet I am after should appear human-like in its miniature dimmension.

Can you suggest a good source of Bass Wood. I have not been able to find
blocks big enough for the head size of the puppet above. I live in Salt Lake
City. Any tel. numbers or Web sites you can recommend?

Thanks for the help,
Roger Benington
