Date sent: 12-AUG-1999 15:00:25 Thank you Robert for sharing some of the discussion/questions with those who never could have stayed up until 2 a.m.,let alone 4 a.m. But, I would have liked to be a part of a discussion. My colleague went to the "Meet the Artists" session and was impressed with some of the comments there. Over the years and the festivals I have been able to attend, I believe that Lubbock (1978) had the best critique sessions. Too bad that the organization backed off critiques after an/some artist(s) complained about the response to his/her/their production(s). The conference held at Vancouver, WAshington in 1990 was the best balanced: good panels/discussion on theory/aesthetics, great performances at the International Childlren's Theatre site, etc.. I liked the WAshington D.C. performance schedule, but it was nerve wracking getting the "right" tickets or being at the first of the line for some smaller venues. AS for the sites -- hotels vs. university campuses -- almost any inconvenience is tolerated if the quality of the shows and workshops (and discussions, if held) is tops. When my roomie and I walked into the dorms at Washington, D.C. we really wished we could turn around and go back home -- we were housed in the old dorm. But the rest of the festival was so great the rooms and bathrooms faded into insignificant issues. Heck, we even became philosophical about the food and cockroaches at Talequah. Admittedly, I just like to go to university campuses -- long time interest in the competition. I believe that the Seattle planners managed the performances well -- blue and red -- considering they did not have a venue large enough to handle large shows and audiences; San Francisco probably had the best mix of theatres. That's my 2 cents worth, Dorlis first_nam e last_name Internet - grubidge-AT-vaxa.cis.uwosh.edu --- Personal replies to: GRUBIDGE-AT-vaxa.cis.uwosh.edu --- List replies to: puptcrit-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- Admin commands to: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu
