Even at this recent festival, we learned from the Belgians that "a kiss without a moustache is like chips without salt." I don't know about you, but I stopped shaving my upper lip immediately. We've never made 100K in a year, though there have been years when I believe we could have, had our marketing efforts been more consistent. One must decide, though, how many shows do we really want to do in a year? Is it more important to make the 100K or to take take 3 weeks to perform in France on a tour that will probably lose money, or break even. I certainly agree on the importance of having a good product, and presenting onesself in a way that's appropriate to one's chosen market, but beyond that are the questions of personal values- learning to live on less than one's maximum potential earnings in exchange for, say, having two or three days a week during the summer to garden, be with one's kids, volunteer, develop new work, and so on.
