From: "Jay Jennings" <jay-AT-alakazam.com> Subject: PUPT: My First Shadow Show Date: Sat, 14 Aug 1999 16:50:00 -0700 I performed my first shadow puppetry "show" this afternoon. I say "show" because it was at my house for about 15 people...all family members. So the only reason it counts is that I've never done shadow puppets before. :) It went over pretty well (but it _was_ family, after all). I took a 20"x30" piece of foam board, drew a house on it, then cut a big square out of the middle of the house. Into that opening I glued a square of window shade stuff. Then I made another one that looked like a storefront. So, I had two different scenes where the puppets could perform. I don't have a real shadow puppet stage, but this worked out really well. In fact, I have a play that I've been wanting to do for quite a while and I think I'm going to adapt it for shadow puppets. And instead of a "normal" stage I'll create scenes/stages from foam board. The past few days I've been looking for shadow puppet info and have found it kind of lacking (on the web). So far I haven't found any place that talks about what materials to use for the screen, puppets, etc. Kind of a hands-on how-to type of site. Any pointers from anyone? Thanks.
