Subject: PUPT: Festival update comments and considerations.

We are welcoming all of the comments on the Seattle Festival. It is so
strange not to be at the Festival. I haven't missed one since '82.

Just to let you know I am forwarding all of these festival discussions to
Jody Wren the 2001 Festival Director. She will be very interested in what
you are saying and I'll make sure they get forwarded to others also such as
the Future Festival Committee - when I find out who that is. Ouch on the
composition of the sentences.

Fred, most festivals have a day rate and that should not include a late fee.
At least, I've never known it to. However, that is usually on space
available basis. As with Seattle, there were only so many spaces available -
the most critical is Theater space. Especially if the show is for the entire
festival - should they choose to attend. One never knows on this therefore
you have to assume everyone who registered will attend that show. They don't
but you don't know that for sure.

Off the top of my head comment - it would be a nightmare trying to register
some people for only shows and some for only workshops etc. Boston '89
found out when they tried to run the Education track simultaneously with the
festival that some of the P of A registrants wanted to attend the Education
track workshops and some of the Education people wanted to attend the P of A
performances/workshops. There were unhappy people and it not fun to deal
with this mid-festival. Especially when you thought it was all spelled out
ahead of time.

As for people registering late. A lot of people send in the reservation to
"hold" their spot but many, many people do not pay the whole amount way ahead
of time. I guess they feel the same about that as they do about taxes. **
I'll use the money until I absolutely need to send it. Why let the
festival/government "hold/use it" all that time.** I hope you see the
analogy here. In Toledo we had many people who did not send the full amount
until after the deadline. I'm not sure how close to the deadline Seattle
had full payments in hand.

There are many reasons to get the money ahead of time for the festival. One
of them being downpayments, prepayments etc. to the facility. Some
Universities/facilities require all of the payment before anyone ever sets
foot on the premises. It's a business for them.

Please remember Henson makes no provisions for food, rooms etc. They do the
shows. It is a showcase for performances with some seminars thrown in.

P of A festivals are complex. I'm sure the future festival committee and
future festival directors welcome all of your comments and suggestions. Some
are just more easily implimented than others. We continue to serve a very
eclectic group of people.
