Creator Heather Henson tells her tales through breathtaking puppetry, dance and shadow play. Truly a multimedia event, EN MASSE is a choreographed spectacle of light, sound and movement, celebrating the rhythmic cycles that we share with our natural environment. Ms. Henson's work has been described by press as "an evocative and beautiful array of images, bending together with a wonderful score.." and "...a beautiful piece of theater art." She explores the themes and images that can be found throughout nature and by showing us these simple images, we re-examine our lives and culture. Ms. Henson says that her piece "highlights the resonance that we share with our environment. Gatherings, whether it be birds, fish, humans or geese are a forceful occurrence. Individuals moving together en masse is a wonder to behold." Ms. Henson graduated from RISD with a degree in illustration and an emphasis on animation. After graduation, her enthusiasm for demonstrating the wonder of animals and the environment found a natural progression to puppetry. She has created and performed a number object theater pieces with environmental themes throughout New England. Her work has been well received in choreography showcases, performance art festivals, puppet and theater venues, as well as puppet and spirituality conferences. Often dealing with themes of universal rhythm and the place of the individual within that universe, she has created puppet dances with such titles as DEER VISION, WOLF PAUSE, MIGRATIONS, FLOW, PETAL RISE and BLOOMING FLIGHT. Her work has been performed at such varied venues as H.E.R.E., P.S.122 & Los Kabayitos Puppet Theater, Joyce SoHo, all in New York City; Seven Angels Theater in CT, and in Rhode Isalnd at the Perishable Theatre, Carriage House Theater and AS220 Arts Complex. In addition to her performance credits, Ms. Henson designed and constructed shadow puppets for Trinity Rep's production of AS YOU LIKE IT, designed props and set elements for Cadence Dance's ballet THE SNOW QUEEN and designed and co-directed Alva Roger's THE DOLL PLAYS for New World Theater's New Works for a New World at UMASS/Amherst. -more- Performances of EN MASSE will be held at Perishable Theatre, Thursdays through Saturdays, September 23rd - October 2nd at 8PM with a special Sunday matinee October 3rd at 2PM.
