Subject: PUPT: Another question from Aretta...

Thanks, all, for the wonderful discussion of the whole puppeteer and/or actor
question I asked a week or so back. It is a question for which there IS no
one correct answer, of course--and that is a GOOD thing!

It occurred to me that, if more schools (undergraduate, especially)
incorporated more puppetry into their theatre curriculum (including dance,
movement, masks, costuming, directing, etc.), we would begin to see much
earlier as artists how intertwined these artforms really are!

Did anyone here take puppetry classes as a part of their "general" theatre
program (at a liberal arts college, especially)? If so, which schools,
please? I'd like to start adding to my list of where I can encourage my
"young" students to look to continue their training while also getting a
great liberal arts education.

This discussion encouraged me to call my acting mentor/director from my
undergrad alma mater to ask WHY we haven't yet added puppetry into our
theatre arts program. His response was to invite me in to teach a topics
course in puppetry next semester! Go ahead, everyone--call YOUR alma mater
and offer up your services!
