Somehow a few lines were omitted from this paragraph in my last post. It 
should read:

It's unlikely that this same  Henson crowd was responsible for ALL of this 
very successful run. 
I'd like to suggest that perhaps Basil's  audiences were made up of some 
people with no connection to puppetry. That they saw the show, liked it and 
told friends about it. That Basil "built a  better mousetrap." And that it 
appealed to people who liked good theater in whatever form.
