I'm currently researching the most exciting, magical way to design and stage
a rather elaborate, mainstage production of "The Velveteen Rabbit," which
calls for an oversized set of a child's bedroom and a garden. The cast is
intended to be three human actors, and seven (or so) puppets of the title
rabbit and other toys.

I've been a professional theatre director for 20 years, but I am overwhelmed
by the research I've been doing on everything from Bunraku to costumed
characters.

Can anyone offer me advice on the most effective and theatrical way(s) for
puppets to play scenes with humans? Puppeteers visible, or not? Sets with
multiple places for hidden puppeteers?

I appreciate your input in advance.

Sincerely,
Nancy Cates
